We had our lecture at the Tate today ont he top floor where GlennBrown is currently exhibtion a retrospective of his works...we also had a guest speaker the curator of the exhibition for Glenn Brown who gave us some insight into the thoughts and processes behind curating an exhibition which was helpful advice considering we have our own class exhibition coming up in a few weeks. It was also helpful for our essay assignment. I'm thinking about possible themes i could use for the essay already.
I wasnt familiar with the work of Glenn Brown but was really interested in his tecnique he uses in his swirly paintings, The different images all combined and hidden among the swirls was beautiful and so delicate, must be the most time consuming method!
I wasn't too fond of the sci-fi /star wars styled paintings in the first room ..as im not even remotely intertested in kitsch geek sci-fi.
We had to do a mini task put forward to us by Vinny to discuss certain rooms in the exhibition and examine how Brown had looked at other artists works and interepreted them himself. This i found fascinating as we found refrences to Arnold Boecklin's 'Island of the Dead' which has always been a painting i admire.
After the lecture we all went to visit our own gallery space at the Ubran Contemporary Center to check it out and consider our options for hanging our work up, i took some photos of the room, its an old warehouse and its full of wonderful old beams...its made my mind tick over and im beginning to have some ideas how i can incoporate my ideas into a possible installation...to be free in the room rather than against a white painted wall...
